A Free Ticket From Russia?
The Russian tv channel Tsargrad TV has come out with an announcement stating that it is offering free one-way plane tickets to any gay men looking to get out of Russia and go to America.
When that statement is first read, you may wonder if the channel is trying to be helpful to gay men being persecuted in places like Chechnya or if it’s just trying to get rid of the gay men.
It’s just trying to get rid of them.
Part of the official announcement went:
“Just recently, California—the most liberal state in the USA, by the way—proposed to facilitate the granting of green cards to Russian perverts,” said the host Andrei Afanasyev. “The staff of Tsargrad TV support this initiative. Moreover, we are ready to pay for a one-way ticket to anyone who plans to emigrate in complete earnest, and can provide a medical certificate proving that they are sodomites or have other forms of perversion.”
If you think some of the wording in the announcement seemed harsh, that’s no surprise to those who are familiar with Tsargrad TV.

Tsargrad is known for being a channel that heavily promotes Christian Orthodox values.
In fact, the founder of the channel, Konstantin Malofeev, is a businessman who very openly supports Vladimir Putin (a political leader who says he does not support gay life). In addition, Malofeev has said he views the channel as the Russian equivalent of Fox News.
That said, both the channel and Putin have not openly expressed hatred towards gay people, but a general disapproval.
At the end of the day, Tsargrad TV is offering free passage to the US for gay men who might need it. While their goal is to get rid of these men, some might actually find it a blessing.
That alone… might be good?
The only question is, how will these gay men get medical documents proving that they're gay? Sadly, the information Tsargard TV provided does not explain further.
