Ben and Jerry's Ban
As more and more country are allowing same-sex marriage, its seems a little weird that Australia isn’t catching up with the times. Apparently, Ben & Jerry’s feels the same way.
The beloved ice cream company has recently come out with a statement saying that it wants Australia to wake up and realize that it needs to legalize marriage equality.
In the statement, they’ve announced that in 26 stores around the country, they will no longer be selling two scoop, same flavor ice cream.
So, if you live in Australia and wanted just two scoops of that classic vanilla or that beloved chocolate, you’re now out of luck.
The statement official says:
“Imagine heading down to your local Scoop Shop to order your favorite two scoops of Cookie Dough in a waffle cone. But you find out you are not allowed – Ben & Jerry’s has banned two scoops of the same flavor. You’d be furious!”
“But this doesn’t even begin to compare to how furious you would be if you were told you were not allowed to marry the person you love.”
“So we are banning two scoops of the same flavor and encouraging our fans to contact their MPs to tell them that the time has come – make same sex marriage legal! Love comes in all flavors!”
The people behind Ben & Jerry’s aren’t the only ones sick and tired of Australia’s slow attempts at legalizing marriage equality.
Back in February, there was a mad push for finally voting in same-sex marriage, but it sadly didn’t go through. In addition, several sources show that two thirds of the country are in agreement with marriage equality, but it’s just that the legal system hasn’t gotten around to it yet.

Then even further back to November of 2011, there was a campaign for marriage equality. This video below was released to inspire people in the country to rise up and fight for their same-sex neighbors.
“We will make sure that the postcards are delivered before the final parliamentary session on June 13th, before the budget is announced –We see this as the next opportunity for to achieve marriage equality, so we need to act NOW!”
“At Ben & Jerry’s we love love, and we think most Australians do too. More Australians than ever before believe everyone should have the right to love who they love – and marry them too, if that’s what makes you happy. Let’s make it happen!”
