Sam Smith’s “Too Good At Goodbyes,” dropping Sept 8.

He's baaack

Letters, billboards, song title, oh my! After months of teasing rehearsal pictures, the return of Sam Smith is finally upon us. The British Grammy award-winning superstar took to Instagram Thursday to pin a heartfelt letter to fans, detailing when they could be expecting new music.

“I have missed you all desperately, and a day hasn’t gone by when I haven’t been looking at all your comments & dreaming of singing with you all again. The wait is so nearly over,” said Smith. “Something is coming very very very soon. I am scared & excited at the same time. I’ve poured my soul and heart into this record,” he added. “Love you all, and see you in the not so distant future.”

I guess when he said not so distant, he was serious. Yesterday, the Oscar-winning artist surprised his fans with the release date of his new music, posting pictures from both London and Los Angeles that showed a Spotify billboard with the date, September 8.

But, if you thought the surprises ended there, you were wrongly mistaken. On the music registration site, PPLUK, “Too Good At Goodbyes,” was registered under Smith's name, alluding to fans that this is what we will be seeing on Spotify next week. You will also find that this title is associated with Smith's name on the lyrics site, Genius, stating that “lyrics to this song have yet to be released.”

Although, Smith and his representative haven't confirmed that this is the single that we've been waiting for, most are believing that the cat is out of the bag. Plus, this title screams “In The Lonely Hour,” part two and has such a sad boy vibe that we've all come to love about Smith.

Rumors are also swirling around that this upcoming single is a collaboration with Jimmy Napes, a producer who Smith worked with on his last album. However, none of these details have been proven as of yet.

Even though, we all might be wanting to get in touch with our sadness with this next album, Smith could have some tricks up his sleeves. Perhaps, being good at saying goodbye is a positive thing, and we're going to be introduced to the confident and shady side of the artist. It seems like some are already hinting at a more diva-like persona from Smith, after what some are calling a shady diss to Korean band, K-Pop, coming from the Brit liking a jab at the group on Twitter.

Will Smith be dropping a diss track, or a breakup song as his first single? I guess, we'll have to tune in to Spotify next week to find out.
