Sheriff claims it's a misunderstanding

The Atlanta Constitution is reporting that the DeKalb County Sheriff Jeffrey Mann was arrested this weekend and charged with two misdemeanors after police officer said the sheriff exposed himself late Saturday night and then attempted to evade arrest.

Per the incident report, obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Sherriff Mann was observed in a part of Piedmont Park known for “sexual acts after dark.”

GPB has reported on this area before regarding a group outdoor hookup that got broken up by authorities.

Local reports suggest Mann had exposed himself as he was walking in the direction of a police officer.

Apparently, once he got within 10 feet of the cop, the officer beamed his flashlight on the sheriff, identifying himself as Atlanta police and commanding him to stop.

Reports suggest Sherriff Mann decided to flee, making the police officer give chase for a quarter-mile before finally giving up.

The policeman said the sheriff ran across 10th Street and into oncoming traffic.

“I continued to watch the male run while I waited to cross 10th Street and its traffic near Argonne Street,” states the report.

“The male had stopped to tie his shoes. I got approximately 10 to 15 feet from the male before he noticed my approach. The male immediately stopped fixing his shoes and started running again.”

When the Sheriff came to 9th street, he reportedly noticed he was losing ground to the pursuing officer and finally gave up.

“The sheriff told Channel 2 Action News that he appreciates Atlanta police and wants to clear up what he called a misunderstanding. He was booked into the Atlanta City Detention Center and bonded out early Sunday morning.”

Sheriff Mann is an attorney, who was re-elected to office in 2016 after being victorious in a special election to replace Thomas Brown, who resigned to run for Congress.

The sheriff claims the entire matter is a misunderstanding. The report in its entirety can be accessed from Decaturish.com
