Skittles Got Rid of Its Colors To Celebrate Pride Month

All-White Skittles Are Racist?

Skittles has decided to lose its rainbow to celebrate Pride Month.

Why? Because the company says, “During Pride, only one rainbow matters, so we’ve given up ours to show our support.”

Don’t worry though, if you think that because they’re all the same color they will have the same flavor, you’d be wrong. They will stay the same classic flavors, but it will now be more of a mystery game as to which flavor you will get.

But sadly, these all white skittles packets aren’t being globally distributed. Instead, you can only by one of the white packs at a Tesco store.

In addition, with every pack bought, the company will donate to LGBTQ charities.

Julio Guijarro, the marketing director for Wrigley UK which owns Skittles, said:

“The response to our #onerainbow (or Give The Rainbow) campaign at Pride in London 2016 was incredibly positive, so we were keen to get involved again.”

“Our activity last year resulted in requests from across the world for colourless Skittles packs, so we’re really excited to team up with Tesco UK to launch the limited edition ‘rainbowless’ packs to show our support again for Pride and celebrate diversity and inclusion.”

While some are celebrating Skittles for its effort in respecting LGBTQ pride during the month of June, there are others who aren’t so happy.

Sadly, it seems that some people are worried that by making the bags completely white Skittles is in fact being racist.

We're not going to get into an argument about the issues, but it just doesn't sound right. Plus, to say that it does only makes real arguments about race that come after this event seem less legitimate.

And plenty of people agree as many have complained about the complainers and Huffington UK made a statement saying, “Any suggestion that this support for Pride is in any way racist is clearly wrong.”
