Casey gets green light for season 2

Casey Cott, who plays the role of Kevin Keller on CW’s Riverdale, has been promoted to series regular for Season 2 per a report in TVLine.

Riverdale, a teen-soap re-imagining of the classic Archie comics, scored a Season 2 renewal back in March. Cott joins KJ Apa (Archie), Lili Reinhart (Betty), Cole Sprouse (Jughead), Camila Mendes (Veronica), Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl) and Ashleigh Murray (Josie) as series regulars among the show’s teen cast.

Hunky Mark Consuelos (Pitch) will be joining Riverdale‘s cast in Season 2 as Veronica’s father Hiram Lodge. And another new face will be coming to Riverdale High, too: The role of Reggie, played by Ross Butler in Season 1, will be recast.

What’s Casey Cott’s Background?

If you are curious about who Casey is, here’s a quick bit of background information, adapted from his Wikipedia page.

Casey was born on August 8, 1992. He grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Later, he attended Boston University before deciding to study acting, transferring to the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama.

In 2012, Cott appeared in local Ohio productions of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Romeo and Juliet. In 2014, he was a cast member of the play Parade at the New Hazlett Theater in Pittsburgh, where he starred alongside several of his Carnegie Mellon classmates. He continued to attend classes at CMU and work on a university theater production concurrently.

In August 2016, he played Moses in the premiere concert reading of Stephen Shwartz's newest musical project, a stage production of The Prince of Egypt, at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, NY, opposite Shuler Hensley and John Cariani.

On March 12, 2016, during his final year at CMU, Cott was cast as Kevin Keller on the forthcoming CW drama series Riverdale, a TV adapation of the Archie Comics universe. The character of Kevin is notable due to his status of being the first openly gay character in the history of Archie Comics.

Cott stated in a Facebook video released to fans in March 2017 that he originally auditioned for the roles of Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones, prior to landing the role of Kevin.
