Trump At An Anti-Gay Conference
Trump spoke at a conference for a known hate group that targets LGBTQ people.
Trump spoke at the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit. During his speech, he hold the audience that religious freedom views (which is often poorly veiled discriminatory views towards women’s rights and gay rights) would “no longer be silenced.”
At the start of the speech he said it was good “to be among friends” and that his goals was to support people like the Family Research Council.
Specifically, he said, “I am honored and thrilled to be the first sitting president to address this gathering of friends, so many friends.”
He later added, “I pledged that in a Trump administration, our heritage would be cherished, protected and defended like you have never seen before.”
Keep in mind that during his campaign he also pledged to support and protect the LGBTQ community. Clearly, he was pledging a great many things to many people and then later decided to stick with the conservatives (and frankly the extreme side of the conservative party) only.
Trump’s speech went further to support the Family Research Council and those looking for religious freedoms (aka, the freedom to tell us they don’t approve of how we live our lives. Or worse, the ability to enforce their views onto our lives.).

“To protect religious liberty, including protecting groups like this one, I signed a new executive action in a beautiful ceremony in the White House on our national day of prayer.”
“Among many historic steps, the executive order followed through on one of my most important campaign promises, important to so many of you.
“To prevent the horrendous Johnson Amendment interfering with your First Amendment rights.
“We will not allow government workers to censor sermons or target our pastors, our ministers, our rabbis.
“These are the people we want to hear from and they’re not going to be silenced any longer.”
Keep in mind that what the Family Research Council has to say is not about unity and the betterment of all people but of the silencing of another kind of people.
Last year, their website said:
“Family Research Council believes that homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed.
“It is by definition unnatural, and as such is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects.”
I don’t think any of us really want to have them dictate over our lives, but sadly the president does.
