China Censored Micheal Fassbender’s Gay Kiss in Alien: Convenant

No Fassbender on Fassbender?

China’s done it again with its confusing mixed messages.

China has decided to censor out a “gay” kiss Micheal Fassbender’s character has… with himself.

Yes, that’s right. The gay couple on a pilgrimage with other couples to populate a new world is not the gayest and weirdest thing in Alien: Covenant. It’s Micheal Fassbender’s self-kiss.

In 2012, Fassbender played an android character named David who then reappeared for this sequel film. In addition to that, he also then played a second android character named Walter. Near the beginning of the film, the two share a moment when they play a recorder flute and the David character says, “I’ll do the fingering.” Then later the two kissed.

This apparently was not the only thing cut out of the movie as there was ultimately six minutes of violence taken out as well (in a movie where death and violence is the whole point).

This is yet another show of mixed messages being sent by China’s government and film industry concerning gay content.

Last year, China infamously shut down a popular gay web series called Heroin, because it had gotten too popular and rumors were spreading that that two lead actors may be dating.

But, Beauty and the Beast, which had large talk of a “gay moment” before the film’s release was approved and run uncensored.

In addition, China is gearing up to show its first film with a gay romance as the topic and center, titled Seek McCartney, to its nationwide audience without censorship.

Keep in mind that all of that is just the government and the film industry’s involvement with the LGBTQ community’s media.

There is even more confusion going on within the actual country and its people. One second there’s a live and let live (as long as its behind closed doors) policy, the next the police are going out of their way to shut down LGBTQ focused conferences.

Its still a rocky time for LGBTQ life in China, and it doesn’t look like things will be getting stable anytime soon.
