Subaru Outback 2022: A Closer Look
The Subaru Outback: A Closer Look. The 2022 Subaru Outback is one of the best all-around crossovers on the market. It has all-wheel drive, spacious interior, and a stellar safety rating.
Subaru has a reputation for making reliable vehicles. The new 2022 Subaru Outback continues the trend with middle of the road pricing and high-tech amenities. It was awarded Kelley Blue Book’s Lowest 5-Year Cost to Own award for mid-sized SUVs. The Outback has a wagon style body that buyers might yawn at, but there’s plenty more to this crossover than looks alone.
Although the exterior isn’t flashy, the new Outback turns heads with a new Wilderness edition that can conquer the outdoors. The Outback can outperform most family crossovers when it’s properly equipped for off-road excursions. Yet, it can switch up the pace with leather guts and big screen interfaces.
The only problem is that the new Outback doesn’t do both at the same time. You’ve got to pick one mode or the other.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Outback crossover.

Performance Capabilities of the Outback
There are two different powertrain options for the 2022 Outback. Half of the models come with a standard 2.5 Liter Subaru BOXER engine. It produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound feet of torque. The more advanced Outback crossovers come with a 2.4 Liter turbo that achieves 260 horsepower and 277 pound feet of torque.
All of the Outback models are managed by a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Symmetrical all-wheel drive comes standard on all new models and so does Subaru’s X-Mode. Additionally, there’s three different electronic stability control systems and active torque vectoring.
Fuel economy is a big plus in the Outback’s favor. The 2.5 Liter engine configuration gets 33 miles per gallon on the highway and 26 MPG in the city. The turbo engine in the XT suffers only a bit with 30 MPG on the highway and 23 MPG in urban settings. The Wilderness model takes the biggest hit on gas mileage. It only gets 26 MPG on the highway and 22 in the city.
The 2022 Subaru Outback has a towing capacity of 2,700 pounds. The XT and Wilderness models get upgraded with equipment that manages a 3,500 lb. load. With up to 9.5 inches of ground clearance and advanced shocks, the 2022 Outback is capable of not only reaching the campsite, but the crossover SUV can cross streams and manage tough terrain, too.
