Gay Bachelor show rumors
By: John Hollywood
There may be a new “Gay Bachelor” show in the works. TMZ is reporting the following on their website (see update below)
“We've learned the Logo network is shooting a gay ‘bachelor' show, and the prize is Robert Sepulveda Jr. He's an interior designer with Puerto Rican roots who now lives in ATL. In case you didn't notice, Robbie's in good shape.
Our production sources say 20 male contestants have been cast and the show is filming at an L.A. mansion.
There might be a rub. We're told the show is not a spinoff of “The Bachelor,” and it's unclear whether producers of the OG show might have a problem with the knockoff.
No word on when the show will premiere on Logo.”
Many viewers of LOGO have noticed that in recent years, the network has shifted away from LGBT and more towards general cultural and lifestyle shows.
This hasn't sat very well with some viewers. In fact, some have expressed anger and compared the channel's new “not so gay” programming focus to that of the NBCUniversal-owned Bravo.
The channel launched June 30, 2005 as the first advertiser-supported commercial television channel in the United States geared towards the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. It was founded by former MTV executive Matt Farber. Its first president, Brian Graden, was named by Out Magazine as the 15th most powerful gay person in America in 2007.
As of February 2015, around 51,337,000 American households (44.1% of households with television) receive Logo. The network does operate a number of websites, including NewNowNext.com, a pop culture and entertainment blog.
If a new “Gay Bachelor” show does make it to the airwaves, it could be a sign that Bravo is trying to get back to its roots.
UPDATE 7AM 7/12/16
Logo has announced the new show. It's called “Finding Prince Charming” and it will be hosted by Lance Bass. Looks like this is really going to happen!
