Jurassic World Dominion Was A Terrible Movie

Review of Jurassic World Dominion

I’ve been a fan of the Jurassic Park movie franchise ever since the first film was released in 1993. I’ve seen each of the sequels and variations since that time and ended up becoming a huge fan of actor Chris Pratt.

That said, when I caught word that the latest installment of “Jurassic” would be released in the summer of 2022, I was extremely excited. Let’s face it – because of the COVID pandemic, there really haven’t been a lot of new movie releases these past couple of years.

But I digress.

I decided to rent this film over the weekend via Redbox for $1.99. Yep, that’s right, I did it old school and rented the DVD. I’m so glad that I did because to stream it, I would have paid $19.99 [it isn’t available to stream on rental at the time I am writing this].

So, you may be wondering – is this film worth watching? All I can tell you is that I personally thought this movie sucked. That may sound harsh, but I am just being real with you. Here is why.

First, Dominion takes place a few years in the future, after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. As a result, dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside human beings all over the world. Not a bad premise, right?

Well, somehow, the writers of this movie managed to screw the plot up. They did this by wandering away from the plot and regurgitating old storylines that we’ve seen many times before in previous films.

And while you will see many familiar faces in this film, including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neil, their characters are scattered all over the place.

The dinosaurs, including the Velociraptors, are presented in not-so-great CGI. The one dinosaur, Blue, who is a well-loved character from previous releases, is noticeably absent for much of this movie. And for that matter, so is Chris Pratt.

I won’t give away the candy store by giving away specifics of the film, but I will say that it felt like “Dominion” lacked direction and purpose.

Honestly, this could have been a blockbuster summer release that could have rivaled Thor: Love and Thunder. But that’s not what happened – at least to me. Giving it one star feels like a stretch, but that’s what I’m giving it.
