5 Great Apps and Sites For Solo Exercising

Apps For Solo Exercising

Many gyms are still closed in several cities, states, and countries around the world. But we still need to get our fitness on! Thankfully, digital services are helping us to stay healthy and fit. Maybe, you’re more into following fitness gurus on Instagram or YouTube.

Or, maybe you’re looking for a separate app or site to guide you through the perfect workout. if so, we have a few ideas for places to check out.

1. Couch to 5K

Couch to 5K (or C25K) steadily guides people from their couch to running a 5 kilometer (3.1 miles) run in 8-9 weeks. The original program was created by Josh Clark of CoolRunning and now there are hundreds of versions on the app store.

Each one, however, follows the same program of focusing on interval training. Meaning, it gets you, your body, and your mind used to longer jogs by having you move at different speeds throughout your sessions. During the first week, you’ll spend 30 minutes hopping back and forth from 1-minute jogs to 1-minute walks. The app then increases the level of difficulty as you go.

2. Progressive workouts

Want an app that gives your routines for how to work out with just your bodyweight? Progressive Workouts might be the program for you. This app is focused on building strength, so it’s not the right app for anyone looking to lose weight. But if you are looking to grow muscle, and have time to work out three times a week, Progressive Workouts is a great choice.

It also features exercises that can be leveled up, log reps with changing time or weight depending on the exercise, videos and descriptions, a collection of data from your last sessions, and the ability to create and edit your workouts.

3. Darebee

The Darebee Resource is an independent fitness resource maintained by a small group of volunteers who love fitness. The site works as a great encyclopedia with information like exercise routines, healthy lifestyle tips, and more.

Everything on the site is free because the team behind the screen just wanting to get the information out there and help others live healthier lives.

4. Centr

This app and site were created by Thor himself! What’s not to love? Being known for his impressive physique, Chris Hemsworth decided to create a space to teach others how to live healthier lives. He, and his wife Elsa Pataky, gathered the expertise of food nutritionists, fitness gurus, mental health experts, and more.

They then placed cooking recipes, exercise routines, and more on the app.

5. Zombies, Run!

Lastly, we’ve got Zombies, Run! If you need to get some cardio in but also enjoy a little immersion and fun, this is the app for you. This app adds to your workout experience by adding narrative audio about the zombie apocalypse.

You’ll listen to great storytelling, and maybe even get the hairs on your arms and back to rise, as you jog and exercise. Plus, with several episodes and seasons to this app’s storyline, you'll feel like you're running for your life for possibly the rest of your life (in a good way!).
