Aaron Hernandez pleaded to share cell in authenticated letters
Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez formally asked for new cellmates in prison several times before ending his life, including a request to be with one cellmate he described as “my heart,” according to newly reported letters he wrote to prison staff.
The letters were obtained by the Boston Globe and later authenticated by state officials.
Hernandez, who had been serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, was assigned to “G2 housing” at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. Per published reports, including Yahoo News and MSN News, he begged on several occasions to be transferred to the P2 cell. He described P2 as where he’d “end up in the long run.”
All of the prison inmates names were redacted in the obtained letters so it was unclear who Hernandez was requesting as cellmates.
New Letters
In one of the letters, with a date of June 12, 2015, Hernandez wrote, “So, please make this happen and I even prefer to move in with (name redacted); me and him are very close and have been since the streets and that’s FACT, not bull (expletive). He’s my heart and like a real brother to me that’s why I want and am requesting to go upstairs and live with him.
Per the MSN report:
“I am requesting to (bunk up) with my brother (redacted), we both want to.”
Hernandez’s fiancé, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, addressed on the Dr. Phil show rumors that Hernandez was gay and had a lover in prison.
“The Aaron that I know, no. I got no indication that he was such,” she said. “He was very much a man to me. It’s hurtful. Whether it’s true or not, it’s not something I saw.”The lawyer of Kyle Kennedy, another prisoner, said that Hernadez had written Kennedy one of the three suicide letters. Jenkins-Hernandez disputed that claim. She said there were three letters: one addressed to their daughter, another to her and one to Hernandez's lawyer.”
Days after Hernandez passed away, word began to circulate that he had a “prison boyfriend“. There have been conflicting reports about the nature of the relationship with the alleged prison lover, Kyle Kennedy.
The newly reported letters seem to support Hernandez did share a close relationship with at least one person. The nature of that relationship, however, in unclear.
Hernandez reportedly penned three suicide notes. One was for his fiancee Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez and one for his daughter.
More: Gay for the stay in prison
The person of the third letter is unconfirmed. Jenkins-Hernandez stated it was for Hernandez’s lawyer while the attorney for Kyle Kennedy claims his client Kyle Kennedy was the recipient.
Kennedy is rumored to be one of Hernandez’s gay lovers.
