How To Protect Your Heart?

In today’s world, we have a lot to worry about. Are we keeping our hands as clean as possible? Are we as in touch with our feelings as emotionally healthy? Are eating a healthy and balanced diet? When it comes to the latter, is our diet doing the best for the organs inside our bodies. Like for instance, are we eating what’s right for our heart?

Honestly, there’s a lot of information out there about what’s good for our hearts and what’s not. Sometimes, it can be pretty daunting. But one piece of information that has been around for a while and is still very true, we should be careful of the amounts of red meat that we eat. Whether it be eating burgers or steaks, eating a lot of red meat can be dangerous for our hearts. But let’s see the ways that avoiding large amounts of red meat can help.

Lower Disease Risk

As Kristin Kirkpatrick, the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute in Ohoi’s manager of wellness nutrition services, told Healthline:

“Over the past decade, there have been multiple studies showing that more plants in the diet often equates to greater longevity through decreased chronic disease risk and inflammation. In particular, plant-based diets have been proven to be the best option for reducing the risk of heart disease.”

Adding to that, it appears that people who gain calories from plant-based food are less likely to die from coronary artery disease. In addition, people who replaced 5 percent of their daily calories from animal protein to other protein resources had their risk of dying by heart disease by 50 percent.

Replacements?

But if it’s better to eat less red meats, what will you replace them with? Well, there are many options.

Plant Proteins

Replacing red meats with nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains is a great idea. Eating these types of food will help you get a proper replacement for proteins. In fact, you’ll sometimes get more protein than when eating red meats. Plus, you will also get healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Fruits

Last week, we also introduced you to the jackfruit. The jackfruit is a fruit that is being celebrated as a replacement for meats. The fruit has a texture and taste much like meat. Plus, it contains similar health benefits as meat. Though, it also includes many nutritious factors that meat does not have.

Dairy

On top of that, you could also consider replacing some of your red meats with dairy products. This is a sort of half-way option for those who don’t want to go a vegan route. You can enjoy getting protein through sources like cheese, for instance.

Replace Red Meat

Ultimately, you don’t have to stop eating red meats entirely. But, you should lessen the amount that you’re eating on a regular basis. Experts agree that doing so will help everyone to live longer and healthier lives.
