Pietro Boselli News
Popular male model and math teacher, Pietro Boselli, is battling a controversy filled with accusations of racism after broadcasting a video filmed in the Philippines.
In the video, Boselli shares with fans images from his vacation and tells viewers that he is on a small deserted island where nothing is around. Known for his commitment to physical fitness, he wonders how he’ll be able to do his workout, since there’s no strength training equipment around. “I have to find something I can lift for exercise,” he says.
Then, he looks at a Filipino man on the beach and decides to he’ll use him.
“Ah! That! Filippino man looks ideal.” he says pointing at the man. “Boselli then adds, “But I need to be very careful and approach slowly because he can get scared and start running.”
After chasing the gentleman around the beach, eventually Boselli eventually catches us with him and uses him to exercise on the sand and in water.
Nearly two days on Facebook, the video went viral and gained more than 2000 comments; many negative. Some are accusing the male underwear model of flat out racism. One person wrote: “Dear, dear Pietro! Off to the cultural sensitivity class I think. You won’t get away with the Benny Hill act and casual racism here.”
Another commenter wrote: “This is so wrong in many levels. Spreading racist stereotypes of nonwhite people as savages, animals, and play things. A white European man coming to our country and treating our people like objects, equipment’s, and (slaves) to be used for whatever he please. Sounds familiar? Bonifacio and Rizal would flip out of their graves if Filipinos think this is ok.”
A male responder, presenting himself as someone who likes Boselli, was equally uncomfortable: “At this moment in history, we must be respectful. I am sure that he did not intend to be a racist, but man, that’s fucking racist.” And criticism continues: “I’m Filipino and I was insulted.”
On YouTube and Facebook combined, where the video has been seen nearly 70,000 times already, a sizable group defend Mr. Boselli. Some are using their comments to say they find the video funny. And more than a few are stating the negative feedback is ridiculous and how they would like to trade placed with the Filipino man.
When approached for comment, Mr Boselli told The Telegraph: “I am so far removed from racism that I cannot possibly see anything racist about a funny video I have made with my friend Danel (the Filipino man in the video).
“We all have differences but we are all the same as human beings. I have and always will respect everyone.
“If anyone sees any racism in this video, they probably have racism in their head. I and Danel alike, still think this is a light hearted and funny video.”
