As it turns out, “woof” can be really great for your dating profile.
Let me explain…
New research strongly suggests that owning a dog can make you quite the catch on the dating scene.
Researchers from the Kinsey Institute, in collaboration with Match.com, have revealed that when potential partners see that you own a dog, it makes them much more likely to think you are boyfriend material.
From the 2015 study of 1,200 people, about one third of respondents said they were more attracted to someone because they had a pet. Additionally, most respondents said:
- They would be more attracted to someone if they knew he/she adopted a pet
- A potential date’s pet choice says “a lot” about their personality
- They would not date someone who said they did not like pets
In other words, man’s best friend really is the best wingman!
Think about it. Generally speaking, when people are looking for a long-term partner, they’re hoping to find someone who is nurturing, loving, and responsible (to name a few desirable qualities). People want to know that you’re dependable.
They want someone who can carry the weight of life’s stressors and, somehow, offer love and kindness and empathy in the process.
Sound about right?
So, when you’re seen out and about playing fetch with Fido, you’re practically oozing all of those qualities.
And it makes sense – Let’s be honest, owning a dog takes a lot of work. If you’re doing it well (and, trust me, people can tell if you’re not), you’re demonstrating that you’ve integrated this living, breathing animal into your (presumably) already busy life.
You feed them, walk them, groom them, play with them, make time for them, and show them that you love them. You want them to be happy and healthy, and you do whatever you can to make that happen. They are completely dependent on you, and you’re not letting them down.
So, when that handsome stud you’ve been making lovey eyes at in your neighborhood sees that you own a dog, he’s going to be quick to think you’ve got what it takes to be a good partner.
Long story short, if you already own a dog, you’ve got a leg up (so to speak) – so don’t be afraid to include a few pics of your pup on that dating app you’ve got. You might get a few more “woofs” than usual.
